Sleep loss can hinder your weight loss

So we already know that a well-balanced diet and regular exercise are key factors to a successful weight loss plan. But are you aware of the role that sleep plays in your plan? Yes, it is a fact that adequate sleep is important for weight loss. Recent medical studies show that sleep loss can increase hunger and affect your body's metabolism to a point that can make weight loss and maintenance more difficult. So if you have been consistent with your reduced calorie menu and fitness plans, you still may be able to enhance your success with better sleep.
How sleep loss affects weight loss
1) Many hormones are affected by sleep. Leptin and ghrelin are two hormones that can influence appetite. And studies show that production of both may be influenced by how much or how little we sleep. In fact, have you ever experienced a sleepless night followed by a day when no matter what you ate you never felt full or satisfied? If so, then you have experienced the effects of leptin and ghrelin.

Losing Weight Isn't About Numbers

Losing weight often ends up being about counting calories and weighing yourself...often! But really, that's not what it is all about.

Many times if you start down that path you end up on a "treadmill". You think you should be making a lot of progress but according to the numbers you don't seem to be.

Well, fear not. Check out the article and you'll find reasons to be happy with your progress, even if your weigh scale doesn't agree with you.

"Take A Walk On The Wild Side" If You Want To Lose Weight

Studies are popping up all over the world that obesity is more rampant in cities than in rural towns. Since it is easier to get access to sweet and fatty fast foods in the city, that's what people eat.

It is also true that city people just don't feel like being outdoors or exercising compared to rural people.

So what does all this mean to you? Well, if you take time to go out to the country once in a while, you will get a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city and you may find yourself being inspired to be getting physical outdoors.

Here's a report on a study done in Jakarta "Big City Lifestyles Are Driving The Nation's Obesity Rates Up".

Burn Fat And Keep It Off

Losing fat involves having the right diet as well as having the right exercise. What does right mean? It means completely different things for different people.

Burning fat involves exercise. Exercise can be broken down to aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic exercise involves using oxygen. Anaerobic exercise involves putting a load on your muscles without paying attention to oxygen levels.

When you put a load on your body at a time it is low in oxygen your body gets tired faster. That's what happens when you are lifting weights.

Low intensity aerobic exercise is great if you are out of shape, but if you want to burn fat and keep it off, you need to combine the two.

Chelsea Cooper has written a great article (Find Your Fat Burning, Muscle Building Zone) explaining how different types of exercise affects different people.

Lose Belly Fat By Having Fun

Who said losing fat was going to be fun? You're supposed to "sweat it out"... "more pain, more gain"... These are the sterotypes on how to lose weight.

Unfortunately too many of us have gone down that route. We have tried diets, exercise and endured endless jibes at our fat belly. Nothing seems to work.

Glen Prescot to the rescue: Glen is a fitness trainer and author. He says that we may not be gaining on weight loss because we are not having enough fun. Stress in our life can prevent us from losing weight. What a concept! Thanks Glen!

Eat Food First...Before You Consider Supplements

Want to lose fat quickly? Eat good food in moderate proportions!

On the other hand there are easier ways.

Consider the effect of chromium pills. Joyce Houston, the Humboldt County public health nutritionist says "Chromium has been touted as one of those miracle nutrients that can help you lose fat and build muscle. Its primary job is to help insulin move glucose from the blood into tissue so that it can be used to fuel the body."

Joyce is a registered dietitian and the director of North Coast Project LEAN. Project LEAN (Leaders Encouraging Activity and Nutrition).

Check this out! If you have been struggling to lose fat you may be just the right person to get some money out of it...if you live in Australia.

I guess Australians are becoming desperate in their attempts to get people to do something about their weight problem. They are offering tax incentives for themselves and their children.

They are also thinking of banning junk food from schools, making laws where companies would make people stand while making phone calls... unbelieveable.
