So we already know that a well-balanced diet and regular exercise are key factors to a successful weight loss plan. But are you aware of the role that sleep plays in your plan? Yes, it is a fact that adequate sleep is important for weight loss. Recent medical studies show that sleep loss can increase hunger and affect your body's metabolism to a point that can make weight loss and maintenance more difficult. Can you tell? I'm still revved up about that billboard making fun of fat people on a billboard in Jacksonville, Florida. Check the archives for details of that story a couple of days ago.

It just so happens I found a forum post about a woman who explains the everyday story about how people get fat and are not able to lose weight.

It's not about being lazy. It's not about being a greedy eater. You know... it's just what happens to people in real life.

Real life is like that. You end up with things that you never would have imagined. One of those things could be fat...

Comparing Fat People To A Whale Is Rude!

It's one thing to encourage people to lose fat. Everyone likes to look at a fit and slim body. But to go over to the other side and start making fun of people who are not skinny is just rude.

PETA - People for Ethical Treatment of Animals is running a campaign in Jacksonville, Florida featuring a fat, bikini clad woman and comparing her to a whale.

That's just not acceptable in a billboard ad.

Most people don't realize that losing weight is not the same as losing fat. Often people who lose weight actually lose little fat. That's because the weight they lost was actual water weight or muscle loss. If you're looking to lose a few pounds you should make it a point to try to lose fat not weight. This means that you need to stop worrying that your success lies holey in what the scale says. The truth is that muscle weighs more then fat. If you build muscle while losing fat you may not lose much weight but you are getting in shape and looking slimmer.

In general there are three basic ways in which you can lose weight. You can diet, watching what you eat with no exercise. You can exercise without changing your eating habits. You can change the way you eat and start exercising. Of course the last one is the best option if you want real results. Although you can certainly lose weight by changing your diet you will likely lose muscle if you don't include exercise.

When you make sure to include an exercise routine in your quest to lose fat not weight you will benefit far more. Besides the fact that you will lose fat and not muscle with exercise there are also other benefits. You will increase you metabolism and build muscle. The more muscle you have the more calories you will burn.

It is a good idea to do some kind of cardio exercise at least three times a week. It's even better to get in thirty minutes everyday. You can choose to do this by jogging around your neighborhood or by using exercise equipment.

There are studies that show that you burn more calories when you exercise moderately everyday compared with exercising intensively three times a week. If you're looking to work off a significant amount of fat working out every day may be a better option.

Cardio exercise isn't enough to make sure that you lose fat, not weight. You will also need to incorporate resistance training with weights two to three times a week. If you're a gym member you have access to all sorts of resistance equipment. If not just pick up a few cheap dumbbells.

Incorporating both cardio and resistance training to your workout program will help you to lose fat not weight. You will burn more calories and lose less muscle. If you add a healthy diet plan in the mix you will lose even more fat and become healthier.

Easy to Follow Systems to Lose Fat Fast & See Your Rock Hard Abs!

Lift weights, do cardio, don't do cardio, run a marathon, eat a salad a day, low carbs, high carbs, Atkins diet, high reps, low reps, high intensity short duration, low intensity long duration... Are you confused? Have you given up because you do not know where to start or because you have tried something with no results?

Just so you know, it is possible to get in great shape in a short amount of time (12 weeks) with a minimal time exercising per week (4-6 hours per week). Trust me, the simpler and more time efficient your work-out plan is, the better chance that you will stick with it, thus the more effective it becomes. Another big advantage of keeping your fat loss strategy simple is that you actually start to realize what works and what does not work for you, your metabolism, your personality, and "YOUR BODY".

Welcome to lesson #1 of OPERATION: BURN FAT FAST!!

You need to limit the information you take in for fitness, fat loss and health;

Transforming our bodies and therefore our lives through exercise is simple.

Simply focus on the 5 areas below;

1.) Lift weights twice per week for 60 minutes working half your body-parts;

Work-out #1-- Chest, hamstrings (back of leg), biceps, rear shoulder (use lateral or pull shoulder exercises)

Work-out #2-- Back, quadriceps (front of leg), triceps, front of shoulder (use press shoulder exercises). Follow the order of body-parts as I have them listed.

>Perform 2 sets to complete failure in the 10-14 rep range, 3 exercise's per body part

>1 minute rest between sets

> Perform exercises in a circuit style; never two sets in a row of the same body-part;

For example on Work-out Day #1 perform your first set of your first chest exercise, then within 1 minute perform your first set of your first hamstring exercise, then perform your first set of your first biceps exercise, then perform your first set of your first rear shoulder exercise.

Then within one minute start over with the same sequence on your second set of your first chest exercise and so forth. Once you complete your second set for each of the first exercises then start on exercise #2, then exercise #3, then
you are done. Do the same for Work-out Day #2. That is 24 sets per session.

You have to really be ready with your plan written down in order to be done in 60 minutes, but you can do it. More time spent on each work-out and more sets does not equate into a better, more productive work-out.

>Perform each repetition with a 3 second negative, a one second pause, & a three second positive. GO SLOW!

2.) Cardio three times per week, first thing in the morning, intense interval style on days that you don't train with weights.

>6-9 1-2 minute challenges, progressively making each one more intense

>Rest periods between each challenge gets longer as challenges gets more intense

>Make sure to warm up for 10 min. with a power-walk

>Stretch out hamstrings, quads, glute's (bun's) & inner thigh twice, once after
challenge #1 and #5

>Perform 2 sets of 2 different abdominal exercises before cardio session

3.) Nutrition (precise personalized athletic nutrition program)

>5-6 small meals with protein and carbs combined together (low fat)

>More calories (in the form of starchy carbs) on days you lift weights

>Starchy carbs are brown / wild rice, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, sweet potatoes

>No starchy carbs on days that you do interval cardio or are sedentary (no exercise). Use veggies, green beans, salads, apples instead

>Eat as much unprocessed foods as possible; If it came from a plant; EAT IT, if it was manufactured in a plant, STAY AWAY FROM IT!

>Drink lots of water, & stay away from calories in liquid form. The more you lower your stress levels, stay away from highly processed foods that are high in sodium, & drink as much water as possible, the more your body will let go off water retention. It is such a great feeling to feel looseness in you shoes, and your skinny jeans :)

4.) Goals (draw up a commitment sheet) and read it out loud every day

> Example: I, John Doe, am very x-cited about my new "FATLOSS LIFESTYLE" 12 Week Body Transformation Program. On _________ (Some date 6 weeks into the future)

I will;

Goals:

1. Lose 15 lbs. of fat,
2. Gain 6 lbs. of muscle,
3. Lose 3 inches off my waist,
4. Gain 1/2 inch on my arms
so that I:

Emotional Elements

1. Will look good in my Sunday suit

2. Get off of blood pressure medication

3. Feel attractive to the opposite sex

4. Be more confident at work so I can get a promotion

5. Will look sexy in my thong underwear

6. Can have the ability to age gracefully and be independent

7. Can be the best mom, daughter, spouse that I possibly can be (These are just examples, you must think on this one)

It does not matter what your emotional elements are. But they must stir emotion in you. Make sure that you list the 3 most emotional reasons that you want to reach your goals. It is not enough to have a date, nor is it enough to have a goal. You must know why you want it.

Once you have your commitment sheet that is personalized for you, read it out loud (twice) with a positive tone in your voice first thing in the morning and right before bed.

The "Law of Attraction" is real. Let's harness its power. As you are reading your commitment sheet out loud I want you to see yourself 12 weeks into the future. You have reached your goals and you physique is lean and ripped.

In fact, when you are in the best shape of your adult life all the areas of your life explode in quality.

I want you to see this in your minds eye. Act like a kid and pretend as you visualize. Now, feel the sweet emotion of how it will feel when you accomplish what you have given up on. So, it is very important to visualize yourself as if you have already accomplished your goals on you commitment sheet.

But it is even more important to feel the sweet jubilation of emotion at your accomplishments.

Do this every day / twice a day as you read your commitment sheet out loud you will be well on your way to a total life of fulfillment. Please believe in the Law of Attraction. Because it is real & it works!!

Trust me, I know it is hard to believe. In fact, I would not have believed it if I did not see it working in my clients lives. TRUST ME, IT WORKS!

Do not overlook how powerful this can be. I have found that this is the most important step of transforming your body and life through exercise.

5.) Social Support: YOU WILL TURN INTO WHO YOU HANG AROUND!

>Announce your attentions by unveiling your commitment sheet to your family, friends, & coworkers

>Do not spend time with anyone who does not totally support you and your goals

>Spend more time around those who have done what you want to do

>After you reach your goals then you can be strong enough to be around those who do not support you healthy lifestyle (but only for small increments of time).

6.) Habitually Thinking More Positive

>We are bombarded with negativity every day from every angle

How to Lose Fat in Your Face

It is impossible to spot reduce fat from any one part of the body. In order to lose fat you must lose weight and exercise every part of your body so you don't lose lean muscle tissue and you do lose fat. Many people find that when they gain weight their face becomes rounder because fat goes to their cheeks and under their chin. Only by losing weight can one dispose of unwanted fat.

To lose weight your diet should be one low in calories and low in fats. Find the number of calories you need per day according to your height and age. And then subtract 500 calories from fat. This is how many calories you need per day to lose weight. Divide this number of calories in half and you have the number of calories you should have each day. Fifty percent of your daily calories should come from complex carbohydrates, 30% from lean meats poultry and fish with the remainder derived from unsaturated fats.

Aerobic exercise is necessary for losing weigh. You can lose weight without exercise but you will lose weight more quickly and be healthier if you include exercise in your weight loss plan. Aerobic exercise three to four times a week for at least half an hour a session will burn calories and fat and raise your metabolism so that you burn calories and fat even while you are resting. Anaerobic exercise, such as resistance weight training and strengthening Pilates exercises will make your muscles stronger and aid in removing fat from them.

Here are some exercises reputed to help lose fat from your face and to strengthen your facial muscles. It is best to use a mirror when doing most of these exercises to ensure that you were doing them correctly.

For the areas around your eyes, relax and close your eyes, look down and then look up as far as possible. Repeat this ten times. Next, again with your eyes closed, lift your eyebrows and stretch your eyelids down as far as possible. Holds this for five counts, relax and repeat this five times. With your eyes open, look up and then down while keeping your head still, repeats this ten times, then looked left and then right, and repeat ten times.

Frown as much as possible and try to bring your eyebrows over your eyes while pulling the eyebrows toward one another. Then lift your eyebrows as far as possible while opening your eyes as far as possible as well. Repeat this five times. Lie on your back on a bed, hanging your head over the edge. Raise your eyebrows as high as possible, and open your eyes very wide. Relax and repeat ten times. Sit upright and while bringing your eyebrows down over your eyelids, wrinkle your nose as far up as possible while flaring your nostrils. Keep for a count of ten. Relax and repeat five times.

Stick out the tip of your tongue and pull in your cheeks. Hold for just a couple of seconds and relax. Raise your lower lip over your upper lip and try to touch it to your nose. Smiling as widely as you can, try to touch the tip of your tongue to your nose.

Losing weight and fat takes time so be patient with yourself and your body, stick to it and you will soon have the look you want without plastic surgery or liposuction.

What is the best exercise to lose weight?

It's difficult to give a specific answer to this question as it depends on an individual's own unique circumstances and personal preferences. So what I'll do in this article is give you some suggestions as to what I feel are the best exercises to lose weight, and then you can make up your own mind. Generally speaking, an exercise that works on your cardio is ideal for helping you to lose weight as it stimulates your heart rate and forces your body to begin burning energy and excess fat. Pumping weights at the gym may make you stronger, but it won't necessarily help you to lose weight, much the same as crunches will tone your abdominals but won't help you to lose belly fat.

Play A Sport

Sometimes the hardest thing about an exercise routine is sticking to it. By regularly playing a sport that you enjoy, you can avoid this problem and help yourself to lose weight quickly, obviously depending on the type of sport and the intensity with which you participate. For instance, playing squash is going to help you lose weight quicker than say golf.

Running Or Jogging

The timeless favourite to get fit and lose weight. Most lose weight exercise programs will inevitably include some running or jogging at some point. The great thing about using jogging as an exercise to lose weight is you can do it pretty much anywhere, and you don't need any equipment. If you are a member of a gym, why not include an intense run on the running machine as a good warm up before your session.

Start with 10 minutes and gradually work your way up to 20 minutes.

In addition, go for runs outside in your local park or similar area, it will be less boring than the machines at the gym!

The other great thing about running is that it's easy to track your progress and see your improvement over time, with greater distances run in quicker times, and improved recovery rates - not to mention a noticeable weight loss.

My uncle suffered from heart and weight problems and was literally at death's door. The doctors advised him to change his diet and begin taking regular walks every day, so he did. He has lowered his blood pressure as well as losing fat, and this change of lifestyle and exercise has literally transformed him. Never underestimate the power of even the simplest of exercises.

Cycling

Another great exercise that can be performed at home, in the gym, or out in the fresh air. An excellent cardio exercise, cycling has many benefits to help you to lose weight, as well as increased stamina, endurance and strength.

If you haven't already, you should definitely look to incorporate some bike work into your workouts - even a simple thing like cycling to work everyday instead of catching the bus or taking the car can have a profound effect on your weight loss success.

Swimming

An often underrated exercise to lose weight, swimming has the added benefit of significantly improving stamina and muscular strength as well as toning your body.

I guess the reason it's underrated as an exercise to lose weight is that we associate lose weight exercises to building up a sweat, and obviously you don't sweat while swimming (or at least, you don't notice it). However, swimming is one of the best all round exercises.

It must be stressed though that swimming needs to be complemented by a good healthy diet plan which looks at eliminating unnecessary calories. Swimming on its own, as with all the exercises mentioned here will not help you to lose weight if your calorie intake remains high, and you have a poor diet.

If you are looking for a way to lose fifteen pounds in two weeks, a high protein diet, a low carb diet, a fruit diet, a no fat diet, a blood type diet, a juice fast, a diet named after a place in Miami, a grapefruit diet, a cactus diet, a coffee and cigarette diet, a diet that includes sweets, a diet based on your body type, a diet based on an ancient religion or a diet based on your hair color, then this article is NOT for you.

Fad and crash diets, such as the ones described above are not only unhealthy but they also cause rebound weight gain. Also most diets, even though diet gurus write them, cause an initial weight loss but the ultimate result is that you gain all of the weight back the minute you go off the plan. If you don't gain it back within a couple of diets, you are likely to gain it all back plus a bit more within a year.

Crash diets dehydrate you, low calorie diets put your body into starvation mode so you plateau so you can't lose one more pound and high protein diets stress your kidneys and clog your arteries.

So how does one lose weight?

There is only one answer to this question.

You need to expend more calories than you are taking in. Restricting certain foods, eating so-called fat burning foods, or dehydrating yourself with special pills or teas does not do it.

If you only have twenty pounds to lose then your weight loss is not only quite rapid, but you have the extra guarantee that it will stay off because you have followed a sensible exercise plan that did not involve starving, exhausting or depriving yourself. "Trying" To Lose Weight? Don't!

Are you trying to lose weight?

If you are, STOP!

Funny thing to say coming from someone that wants to help you lose all the weight you want, right?

Actually, there's a good reason.

You see, you can't try to lose weight. Don't believe me?

OK, let's use an example. Look around where you are sitting right now and find a small object. Perhaps a pen, envelope or book. Got it?

Now, try to pick it up. Go ahead.

Is it in your hand? If it is, well, then you didn't try, you actually picked it up. If it's not in your hand, you didn't.

Simple, right?

There's no middle ground in doing. You can't "try" to do anything, it's a fallacy. You either do it, or don't do it.

The same applies to losing weight (or anything else for that matter). Saying that you'll try gives your mind fuzzy instructions, and it will return fuzzy results, results that aren't what you really want. It also gives you a "way out" if you don't achieve the goals you set out to reach.

You see, your subconscious mind doesn't interpret your directions, it just goes to work following them as complete truth. When you say you'll "try to lose weight", it will "try" to follow your instructions, which we now know is impossible.

What in fact you want, (if you really do) is to lose weight. To feel better. To have more energy. To overcome health challenges. To look great.

Now, if you say you want to lose weight and are not successful, or continue to use language that includes words like "try" or "we'll see" or "maybe", perhaps you're wired backwards.

What does that mean? Well, maybe you say that you want to lose weight, but your mind says it doesn't. Somewhere along the way you gave your mind instructions that it's too hard, or impossible, to lose the weight you want. Perhaps you're more comfortable where you are now, but know that it's the right thing to say that you want to lose weight.

If this is the case, ask yourself what beliefs you hold that are at odds with what you want. For example, "it's too hard to lose weight", "it's impossible to lose weight", "I can't lose weight because I'd have to exercise all the time", "I'll lose my friends if I lose weight", "I can't lose weight because I've always failed".

Ask yourself if in fact they are true. Are they making your life easier, or more difficult? Do these beliefs serve you or harm you?

Then, replace the old beliefs with new ones. Positive, confident statements about how you want to look and feel.

The best way to lose weight is to avoid saying you'll "try" to lose weight, and say you "will" lose weight. See yourself at your ideal weight. Imagine how great you look and feel. Use positive language and give your mind specific instructions like "I'm now happily at my ideal weight of (number of pounds) weight" or "I now happily choose to wear a size (your ideal size)".

Watch your language and self talk closely and avoid using "try". It may take constant attention at the beginning, but after a short time, you'll get used to keeping your language positive, upbeat and confident.

Your weight loss results will follow immediately, depending on how confident, committed and persistent you are in applying these exercises. The more confident, committed and persistent, the faster your results will appear.

You could even use a sling to carry your baby for resistance. You should do what you feel up to and not push yourself too hard. Make sure what you add in will be enjoyable so it is easier to stick to. I love running and this is what I stuck to as a result. I also enjoy bike rides too, with my son and husband. For toning you could do some Pilates or yoga or have free weights at home. I wouldn't recommend joining a gym, unless you think you will enjoy it. To me the gym is very boring - when I run I get to be surrounded by beautiful scenery not four walls and TVs.

Enjoying the process of losing your weight is also important. It essentially can make or break your ability to lose weight and keep it off. If you don't enjoy the food you are eating or the exercise you are doing, you are more likely to quit or give up. You may end up doing the 2, not enjoying it and reaching your weight loss goal, but as soon as that goal hits you are very likely to quit and end up putting back on the weight you lost. All your hard work and motivation sticking to a boring diet and exercise program wasted!

Lastly, we all slip up. Try not to be too hard on yourself. Embrace your slip up and learn from it. If you beat yourself up you will only make matters worse, and slipping up isn't really that big of a deal - so try to think of it that way and you will be less likely to completely fall of the band wagon so to speak!
