So we already know that a well-balanced diet and regular exercise are key factors to a successful weight loss plan. But are you aware of the role that sleep plays in your plan? Yes, it is a fact that adequate sleep is important for weight loss. Recent medical studies show that sleep loss can increase hunger and affect your body's metabolism to a point that can make weight loss and maintenance more difficult. So if you have been consistent with your reduced calorie menu and fitness plans, you still may be able to enhance your success with better sleep.
How sleep loss affects weight loss
1) Many hormones are affected by sleep. Leptin and ghrelin are two hormones that can influence appetite. And studies show that production of both may be influenced by how much or how little we sleep. In fact, have you ever experienced a sleepless night followed by a day when no matter what you ate you never felt full or satisfied? If so, then you have experienced the effects of leptin and ghrelin.

The Seven Secrets of Highly Obese People
Why do some people simply pack on the pounds effortlessly? It's not always genetics and it's not always gluttony and you can't always blame it on lack of exercise. Indeed, getting fat is often a result of some simple -- and easily correctable -- bad habits, especially when it comes to dining out.
You'll enjoy this article by the Washington Post. They have some good tips for everyday habits to avoid in order to lose fat quickly.
However, my favorite one was the one after their list of "don'ts". The reason it's my favorite is because I am guilty of this more often than not.
Check out the article here: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/checkup/2009/08/the_seven_secrets_of_highly_ob.html?hpid=news-col-blog
After you've read the article, let me know what your bad habits are...this is your chance to purge your conscience... let all hang out (figuratively speaking!)...

Losing Weight Isn't About Numbers
Losing weight often ends up being about counting calories and weighing yourself...often! But really, that's not what it is all about.
Many times if you start down that path you end up on a "treadmill". You think you should be making a lot of progress but according to the numbers you don't seem to be.
In this article by Steve Baldwin, he discusses the reality behind the numbers. In actual fact, you could be making big strides toward having a fit and good looking body but the numbers are very discouraging.
Well, fear not. Check out the article and you'll find reasons to be happy with your progress, even if your weigh scale doesn't agree with you.

How to Lose Fat - Quickly
By Beth Larson
When it comes to how to lose fat quickly there are a lot of theories out there, but many of them are not accurate. For instance, a lot of people think that cardio is the best way to lose fat and that by going on a starvation, low fat or low carb diet they are going to drop the fat and get the body they want. Actually, though, these things aren't the best way to get rid of excess fat. Here are some tips on how to lose fat.
One of the first things that you need to understand is that there is a big difference between losing weight and losing fat. When you lose weight you can also be losing lean muscle and water weight along with fat.
That's just not going to get you the body you want. Not only that, but typically when you have lost just muscle and water it is much more difficult to keep the weight off once you go back to a normal lifestyle. That's why it is so important to focus your efforts on specifically losing fat instead of just losing weight.
One of the biggest myths about how to lose fat is that cardio is the best exercise for fat loss. While cardio is important, strength training is actually more important in regards to losing fat. See, lean muscle requires a lot more energy for your body to maintain than fat does, and your body provides that energy to your muscles by burning calories.
That means that the more lean muscle you have on your body the more calories you are going to burn all the time - not just when you are exercising. By adding lean muscle mass to your body you will boost your metabolism and turn your body into a calorie burning machine.
A lot of women worry that adding muscle to their bodies is going to make them bulk up or get larger. Actually, though, this isn't the case. Instead, by building lean muscle you will get a sleek, toned look like you see the models and celebrities have.
To start building muscle and losing fat you should add strength training to your workout routine several times a week. To get the most bang for your buck try focusing your strength training efforts on the largest muscle groups in your body like your legs and your backside. Squats and lunges are great for this.
Along with adding strength training to your routine you should also follow a diet specifically geared toward fat loss rather than weight loss. Starvation diets, low fat diets and low carb diets don't work to help you lose fat. In fact, often times these diets can make it harder for you to lose weight because they don't provide your body with enough calories and your metabolism slows down to compensate.
Instead, choose a diet that is designed specifically to help you [http://www.dietbuzz.com/fat-loss-for-idiots]easily lose fat and that provides your body with enough calories. You will actually see results much more quickly and you won't be starving all the time.

Best Way to Lose Fat for Optimal Sex Appeal
By Tom Gifford
So what is the best way to lose fat?
Some sources say you need a new carb restricted diet, some will say you need pre packaged meals sent to you, and other will have a new piece of exercise equipment that is so called "revolutionary".
The best way to lose fat does not have to do with any of these!
All the new fads to lose fat are basically just products sold by infomercial companies because they know you will try it, not be successful, and then buy the next thing they sell. This is great for the vendors, but not so great for you.
So lets level it now. The best way to lose fat is simple: a change in your lifestyle.
Before you say "I already know that", stick with me.
The reason you have not been successful in the past with fat loss is because you tried to change one specific thing: carbs, the new thigh master 2000, low/high fat diets, etc.
The best way to lose fat is not changing only one area, it is a comprehensive approach to changing your overall lifestyle.
If you change your lifestyle and you do it the right way, the best way to lose fat will become very clear to you.
A change of lifestyle for the purpose of losing fat consists of a few key factors:
1. Making better food choices
Most people dramatically underestimate how much they consume. They want to lose fat, but still eat so much food that their body has no choice but to store the excess as body fat.
If you are going to make a change in your diet, try eating 4-6 small meals per day, take in less overall calories, and avoid "bad" high glycemic carbs such as white bread, soda, and junk food.
Of course there is a lot more to it than that, but now you get the basic idea of the best way to lose fat through diet.
2. Raise your metabolism.
This is a great way to lose fat with exercise. If you use resistance training, you will add muscle mass. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn, and the higher your metabolism. Don't worry about getting "big and bulky" either =) Unless you train and eat like a bodybuilder, this simply won't happen.
If you also do the right type of cardio called interval training, you will lose fat fast! Interval training consists of alternating between high and low intensities. It is different than regular "same speed" cardio because it is faster and raises your metabolism when you are done. This is a sure way to kickstart your fat loss efforts!
There is a lot to say about making good food choices and exercise that can't but put in detail in one article, but you get the basic idea. The best way to lose fat is the combination of the three things mentioned above.
So stay away from the fad diets and exercise gimmicks. The best way to lose fat is a change in lifestyle that you now have the foundation for. Keep learning and don't give up. Persistence is the key to success!
